Atmospheric Perspectives

Artist Statement

In this body of work, I created atmospheric impressions, reflecting perceptions of architectural and environmental spaces. My interest in the effects of the spaces we occupy started with my career as a realtor. I witnessed the profound responses many people had to gardens and structures, and the need for people to find that ‘perfect space’ for them to occupy. Process and movement are defining characteristics in these works, just as they are in real estate.

In these paintings my intention was to go beyond physical space and to reduce the content of the paintings to simply the feeling or atmosphere that a space projects.

The mixed media paintings reflect the building process embodied in architecture. Ideas are the foundation of the paintings. The tools are colour, line, and form, all of which interplay to create the perceived atmosphere.
