About the Artist

Debbie Hargreaves is a visual artist living in Victoria, B.C. Debbie was born in the Prairies and raised in the small farming community of Canora, Saskatchewan. She attended University in Saskatoon, her first introduction to big city life! After leaving university she moved to Vancouver BC which to Debbie was a smorgasbord of diverse culture, unusual personalities, with scenic beauty everywhere. After arriving in Vancouver, she became a successful realtor, a career she pursued for many years, and a duplicate bridge player, a life-long hobby.

Real Estate afforded Debbie many opportunities to observe people and their reactions to complex, tangible objects such as houses and their environments. She learned that buildings and their environments have perceived atmospheres that can affect the quality and direction of one’s life. The constant factor in the quest for the perfect space to occupy was process and movement. These concepts became the construct and basis for Debbie’s art.

Debbie moved to Victoria, BC in 1994, continued her career as a realtor and started to pursue visual art. She received a diploma in Fine Arts from the Victoria College of Art and continued to study at Vancouver Island School of Art and Camosun College. This was the beginning of translating her fascination into abstract imagery.

She has had a solo exhibition at the Victoria Conference Centre, showing several installation pieces relating to the game of duplicate bridge, and a joint exhibition at Xchanges Art Gallery in 2022. She also had several group shows at the Slide Room Gallery, Xchanges Art Gallery and the Emerging Artist Gallery in Victoria BC.

She has been a practicing artist for over 20 years and is currently an active member of Xchanges Gallery.
